Details for application for service by calling the Village Clerk’s office.Two forms of identification may be required for registration and one must be a state issued photo ID. A deposit of $200 for water service is required. All property owners can receive their deposit back if current on all payments in accordance with current Ordinance. UTILITY CHARGES:
Meters are read bi-monthly on odd months at the end of the month. Water/ Sewer charges are based upon water usage and are also billed bi-monthly on even months on or around the 1st. All customers are charged a monthly $18 water/sewer surcharge for the Village’s current infrastructure maintenance needs. All properties connected to the water system, whether turned off or on, will receive this surcharge. Utility bills are mailed on or around the 1st of even months. If you have not received your bill by the 10th, please call the Clerk’s office. Payments are due on the date shown on the bill. Payments received after the 20th due date are considered late and will be penalized. Payments accepted at Village Office, Village payment box, Sheffield Banking Center and online thru the www.ub-pay.com portal. Delinquent accounts will receive service disconnection notices. Failure to pay by the designated date will result in the disconnection of utility service and a fee will be charged for reconnection: We offer free automatic debit from checking or savings accounts and accept debit cards, credit cards or e-check through our website payment portal.
TRASH: The Village bills for Sanitation services and charges as a line item on the utility bill. Waste Disposal is collected by contracted company, LRS on Friday’s. You must use the supplied LRS bin cart – Cart should be roadside by 6 am. Holiday pick up delayed one day (Saturday) for these holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Reminders: Trash bags must be inside the bin cart. Each home is entitled to one large item each week to set alongside the bin cart- this can be a lamp, chair, sofa (NO WHITE GOODS) IF an additional bin cart is desired please contact the Village office.
- Please help keep Sheffield clean by placing garbage in trash bags.inside the LRS bin cart. Loose trash has a tendency to blow or drop out of LRS truck creating a mess.
- Please don’t overload your bin cart. The bin cart lid should be able to mostly shut. No extra bags (they are not considered a large item) can sit alongside the bin cart
- If your Bin Cart is kept outside please make sure the lid is kept shut so water does not collect in the bottom.
- Remember no more than 1 (one) large item per household per week. Please try to set large item out just prior to Friday pick up.
- Please remove your empty bin cart from the roadside within 24 hours along with your Eagle Recycling Toter receptacles.

Electronics/e-waste: TVs, monitors, printers, computers, keyboards, VCRs, DVD players/recorders, fax machines, digital music players, portable digital disc players, video game consoles, scanners, electronic mice, digital converter boxes, cable/satellite receivers, radios
Toxic materials: liquid paint, cleaning solvents, motor oil, batteries
Landscape waste: dirt, tree branches, leaves, grass clippings
The Landfill accepts: Municipal solid waste, residential waste and construction/demolition waste
ONLINE & MOBILE UTILITY PAYMENTS: The Village of Sheffield accepts online and mobile utility payments. Customers can pay from anywhere, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. To pay, simply visit the Village’s website and click on the button under “Payment” in the center of the home page. This takes you to ub-pay.com. If you have not registered, you will need to know Municipal Code SheffieldIL361 and current account info. Customers can make a credit/debit card or checking/savings account payment. Customers also have the option to set up Auto-Pay through the Village office and not have to worry about making a payment for each bill. To cover costs charged by payment processors and credit card companies, a convenience fee of $3.00 per $100 has been instituted. The Village of Sheffield does not receive any revenue from these fees. RECYCLING: Eagle Enterprise offers recycling services for Sheffield. Please go to www.eerecycling.com or call 309-932-2936 to start service. Recycle pick up every other Friday. There is a schedule on their website.

YARD WASTE: The Village of Sheffield provides an area on the southwest edge of town located on West Mill Road for residents only to dispose of yard waste. Please follow signs.
COMMUNITY CENTER & PARK SHELTER RENTAL: Contact the Village Office for availability and requirements. Application forms are available at this website under “Residents/forms”
BURNING: also see – See Village Code Chapter 9, division 3.
Burn Barrel: Burning of paper, cardboard, and small sticks shall be permitted in a burn barrel only. The burn barrel is to be placed in the backyard in a cleared area. Burning in a burn barrel is prohibited on Sunday and Monday. Village no longer empties or is responsible in any way for your barrel.
Grills & Recreational Fire: Shall not exceed a 2’x2’x2’ area. This does not apply to outdoor fireplace units
DOG TAGS: The Bureau County rabies tag is required.. Dogs are not allowed to run at-large in the Village. All dogs within the Village shall be kept confined within an enclosure or to be kept confined by a chain or on a leash not to exceed six feet in length. Please be responsible and clean up after your pet.
ATV/UTV/GOLF CART LICENSES: Golf carts/ATV’s must be registered and have a current Village of Sheffield license sticker attached to the vehicle. $20 License stickers are valid for each calendar year and are available at the Village Office. Also see web site – sheffieldil.org
