Summer Greetings! I hope you all are enjoying the warmer weather, after such a long period of rainy and cool days.
I would like to, first of all, congratulate our recently elected trustees. We welcome Annette Carper back to the board for the remainder of a two year term. Also, welcome to Tim Pratt, David DeVoss and Jennifer Adams, newly elected to serve the Village of Sheffield. I would like to thank the voters for electing me as your Village President. I look forward to working together with the Board to best serve our little community.
The water tower is nearing completion and should be all done this month. That completes the water meter/water tower project, which was made possible with an IEPA loan. Be sure to take a look at the new graphics on the tower soon!
The basketball court at West Park has a brand new surface, badly needed, as the old surface was deteriorating after years of use. New nets were donated by Donny Geiger and Elizabeth Lee and are getting a workout, as many players are enjoying the new court. The brand new planters on Main Street are a beautiful addition to the Main Street Project. They were constructed and donated by Keith VanderMeersch and we appreciate his hard work! The Village crew stained them and applied the poly and they have recently been filled with flowers. We so appreciate the generosity of our village residents! The Main Street Project is continuing. We still have work to be completed on the brick pavers, the new road surface and the installation of the new light poles. The board appreciates the patience of the business owners and residents as this project moves forward.
PLEASE start seeing children as we begin the summer months and the school year has ended. The splash pad is open, kids are on bikes and sometimes are not as careful as we would like them to be. A reminder that unlicensed persons are not to be operating golf carts or any other motorized vehicles. Also, the swing for handicapped kids has been installed at Veterans/School Park and is only to be used by kids in wheelchairs. If you see others playing on it, we ask that you remind them of this. It truly does” take a Village” and we want every child to be able to enjoy our beautiful parks.
Main Street Update:
We are getting closer…a final layer of asphalt needs to be applied to a portion of the street, striping, sealing brick pavers, center islands and of course street lights. The contractors are coordinating their return to finish and the street lights will be shipping in the next couple weeks for install. There will be some road closures during this time.
Hopefully everyone has had a chance to get used to the new sidewalk and is enjoying the ability to enter from a flush/level sidewalk.
The Village realizes the inconvenience of this project but hopes everyone is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel…Spend a Day, Stay a Lifetime.
